The configuration of a server is not always an easy thing, nevertheless there is a technique making it simpler than editing configuration files "by hand":
Simply simulate the configuration locally with your own game as if you wanted to launch the server on your PC.
Create a new profile called "DedicatedServer" (this is the name of the default profile loaded by the server you are renting, you can use a different profile name but you will then have to edit the command line of your server In order to point to this name, so we will do the simplest and create this profile locally on your PC).
Once the profile is created you can make your settings on your PC which makes the thing much easier. To do this, launch the "rFactor Dedicated.exe" which is located in the directory where your game is installed.
Once your settings are complete, make a backup of the multiplayer.ini file of your rented server and save it on your desktop or in your documents, whatever.
Now upload your config files from your PC to your server using your FTP access (stop the server from the control panel beforehand).
These config files are:
/userdata/DedicatedServer/DedicatedServer.plr
/UserData/DedicatedServer/Multiplayer.ini
UserData / DedicatedServer / DedicatedSRGrandPrix05.ini
Upload them on the server to replace existing files (in the same place then).
If you have used mods or races make sure to upload them too.
You can upload all the files from your PC to the server by choosing "Replace only if the size is different" in your FTP client.
Note for mods:
When you need to upload a mod I recommend installing it on your PC in an empty folder, apart from the actual game. So this folder will contain only the files of the mod which will allow you to only upload this mod if you want to.
Finally, very important, edit the multiplayer.ini file you just uploaded (you can also edit it before uploading it). You actually need to retrieve the port and IP values that you have been assigned and that you will find in the backup you made earlier.
These lines are:
Query Port Start = "XXXXX" // range is 1025 - 65535
Port Start = "XXXXX" // range is 1025 - 65535
Matchmaker TCP Port = "XXXXX" // TCP port to use when communicating with the Matchmaking Server
Matchmaker UDP Port = "XXXXX" // UDP port to use when communicating with the Matchmaking Server
Default IP Address = "XX.XX.XX.XX: XXXXX" // IP to show as default in the Add Game menu
Back up and start your server
Summary:
Stop the server
Make settings locally on your PC
Upload config files, mods and circuits from your PC to the server
Restore the ports and IP that you have been assigned by editing the multiplayer.ini file
Start the server
