Rust wipes: maps, blueprints and backups

· RoxServers

Plan a Rust wipe by defining its scope, timing and the data to preserve.

Define the reset

A wipe is not one universal operation. A map wipe replaces the world; a blueprint reset affects related progression. Plugins may keep separate data. Decide exactly what to remove or preserve and check the behaviour of your version and plugins.

Communicate and back up

Tell players the date, time, time zone and reset scope. Stop the server before backing up affected files. Keep configuration, permissions and data you intend to preserve. Store the backup outside the directory being reset and check that it is usable.

Execute and verify

Follow game and framework documentation to change the map or reset selected data. Do not delete the whole server directory by default. After restarting, verify the map, player connections, permissions, plugins and preserved data. Community schedules may differ from game update requirements; check official announcements before confirming the next date.
