You can use a domain name to connect to your game/voice server.
To do this you must have your own domain name. If you do not have one yet you can order it HERE (chose domain only if you do not need a web hosting).
1) Set the Name Servers
If you purchased your domain from RoxServers you can skip this step and go to 2)
If you purchased your domain name elsewhere you will need to transfer to roxservers.com before proceeding to step 2 Or go to your provider and do the following from its panel.
To transfer a domain name do order a web hosting package on roxservers.com, you can choose the offer "single domain" if you do not have web space and during the ordering ask for the transfer of a existing domain name.
A transfer takes up about 1 week before being effective.
2) Create records
Once your domain name registered with roxservers.com go to your account and then on the "Domains". You will see your areas listed. To the right of the field you are interested click on "DNS Manager", then you will come to a page listing your DNS zone records.
We'll take the example of a redirection for a minecraft server with digital ip is 1.2.3.4 and 29565. harbor, so you need to replace this ip and port for those of your seveur game or voice.
Note that we deliver our game and voice servers with a domain name by default. If you want to know the IP number that "hides" behind the domain name you just have to do a "ping" of the domain name:
- Start menu windows> click "run"
- A window pops up and you do "cmd" without the quotes and press Enter
- A black console appears and you do "ping" followed by the domain name. For example: "voip2.roxservers.com ping" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Some pings will be sent and you will see the digital ip displayed. Note that IP.
At the bottom add a first record:
For minecraft in the first field enter: _minecraft._tcp.mc
You can replace mc with something else. In fact this is the prefix of the subdomain will be used. Imagine that your domain is mydomain.com; then you use mc.mydomain.com to connect to the minecraft server.
For teamspeak 3 you must use _ts3._udp.ts.mydomain.com and replace ts by the desired prefix and mydomain.com by your domain name.
For other games / softwares please refer to theit documenation.
In the second field leave the default dafaut 14440
In the third field select SRV
In the last field type:
- As mc.mondomaine.com address
You will need to replace the mc prefix by the prefix you have chosen and mydomain.com your domain
- Priority put 0
- Port put 29565
You will of course need to replace 29565 with the port of your server
- Weight (Weight) put 5
Save.
Now add a second record:
In the first field type mc (or the chosen prefix)
In the second field leave the default dafaut 14440
In the third field select A
In the last address field, type the IP number of your server, for our example so type 1.2.3.4
The operation is completed, it'll just take a few minutes to a few hours (the time that the DNS propagate) then you can connect to your server using mc.mydomain.com 1.2 instead of typing. 3.4: 29565 (note that it is of course always possible to connect using 1.2.3.4:29565).
